AUDIO INTERVIEWS NOW ONLINE! Stoke-on Trent's longest serving Member of Parliament Mark Fisher is to stand down and will not contest the upcoming election. The veteran Labour MP is the former Minister for the Arts and has served the Constituency of Stoke-on-Trent Central since being elected to Parliament in 1983. Cabinet Accept Strategic Partnership Recommendation

The Cabinet of Stoke-on-Trent City Council today accepted Chief Executive John van de Laarschott's recommendation to cease work towards the Strategic Partnership The partnership would have seen to transferal of up to 900 council staff to a private company that would have been situated in the proposed new Business District in Hanley. Alby Walker is a busy guy. He is contesting both the General and Local Elections as an Independent Candidate He is likely to face opposition from his former colleagues in the British National Party. BNP Deputy Leader Simon Darby will be an opponent in the General Elections as will a candidate from the National Front. Today Stoke-on-Trent BNP Group Leader gave his strongest indication yet that his former boss Alby Walker will face an opponent from the BNP.

Ken Clarke Urges Darling To Go Out With A Bang

Conservative Shadow Business Secretary Ken Clarke has called on the Chancellor to leave public life with an austerity Budget that matches up to the serious challenges posed by the economic crisis, writes Dean Carroll. Indications from within the Labour Party suggest that Alistair Darling will no longer be Chancellor, even if Labour wins a general election. Clarke said the prospect of being replaced by Ed Balls provided the Chancellor with an opportunity to pursue his true economic priorities.

Graffiti draws in the crowds for youth project

Young people from Moorland Park Youth Centre will be showing off the results of a recent project to highlight alcohol abuse next week. Walls at the community centre have been decorated with graffiti, painted by youngsters attending workshops, and will be unveiled next week, with the artists signing their names on their creation.

Art project to show Stoke through the ages

An exhibition of artwork inspired by the city’s past will be officially opened this weekend (Saturday March 13) at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. The exhibition, entitled Stoke through Time – an expression of a new generation, was created by young people who visited the city’s four museums. From their visits they produced a range of multi-media artwork which will now go on display between March 13 and April 25, 2010.

Norsheen & The Local Conservatives Stand Up For The Coachmakers

Stoke Central Conservative PPC Norsheen Bhatti and the local party intend to stand up for the local pub community and support The Coachmakers campaign against it's proposed closure. Recent figures show that a net 3,690 local pubs have closed under Labour. On top of Gordon Brown’s above-inflation rises in alcohol duty imposed in the Budget local pubs will face above-inflation hikes in their Rateable Values – and thus their tax bills.

Staffordshire Libraries leap into 21st century

Staffordshire Libraries have taken a leap into the 21st century after the recent installation of new self service technology. Customers will now be able to make use of state of the art equipment installed in seven Staffordshire libraries, allowing users to carry out a range of transactions electronically including cash payments, borrowing and returning items, and accessing individual library accounts. The Bulls Head Pub Review

Burslem's Bulls Head is - quite rightly - well known on the local pub scene. It could be said that it shares the title of the town's jewel in the ale crown with The Leopard, although it may be the case that the latter just about beats the Bull's Head - albeit by the slightest of margins.

Staffordshire Hoard Returns!

A selection of 59 items from the Staffordshire Hoard will be displayed at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent, including a delicate filigree gold horse’s head, a gold strip with a biblical inscription and a crumpled gold plaque with ornate fish and bird heads. At the same time a similar number of items will be on display at Birmingham Museum, including helmet fragments with animal decorations and warriors.
