Housing Support for struggling families during the economic downturn

Championing further plans to provide quality and affordable housing a cross Stoke-on-Trent

While families are struggling with the economic downturn, it is more vital than ever to ensure that people receive the necessary support to ensure they don’t lose their homes.

The support the Labour Government is putting in place for all families and households includes free access to key advice and negotiation of support from lenders through the Home-Owners Mortgage Support scheme (which has ensured that lenders view repossession as a last resort.)

This is the first time that any UK government has offered help to struggling homeowners in difficult times.  It is essential we do not make the same mistakes the Tories did in the 1990s.  This is why we have acted where we can to try to help people stay in their own homes.

Welcoming the new Housing Minister John Healy into his new role this week, I questioned the impact the proposed Tory cuts in housing support would have on Stoke-on-Trent.  The Minister stated that “What is clear for Stoke-on-Trent is that were the Conservatives to come into Government, the funding for housing would be cut, the funding for local councils would be cut and the people of Stoke-on-Trent, many of whom need that support from central Government, would simply not get it.”

Additionally, I remain committed to the long-term Housing Strategy for our city.  Following my extensive support for the Weston Heights estate, the housing minister, Iain Wright MP, kindly described me as “a great champion of housing in Stoke”.  Elsewhere, the £55 million Coalville Regeneration shows the enormous potential for redevelopment, and I am dedicated to pushing for further construction and redevelopment across Stoke South to ensure quality and affordable housing for all.

Whilst I can't say I'm overly enamoured

Whilst I can't say I'm overly enamoured with the continual flood of PR on PnP from Flello, is there any chance the mods could at least distinguish between what is clearly a 'cut & paste' of (yet another) Flello press release, and the thought provoking articles from the usual contributors that I expect from PnP?
I was halfway through this when I realised it was not a TW article (as the byline states) but the usual product of the Flello office - semi-Government suckup, semi-Tory bashing, and semi-proving he does stuff for the BNP areas.

She's struck again!

Not wishing to single out any of the Girls/women/wimmin - Jeeze, what do you call em' now? Out but I I've noticed many of our female contributors here have of late been 'over extending' themselves.

I'm not going to mention names but I think those I'm alluding to know who they are..

I do wish I could blow her (The Lady of the Lake's), little pic up as an example to the female contributors here. It's just so classy and romantic. It would do you girls well to print it out and place it somewhere where you may gaze and contemplate on your conduct before drifting off to sleep - have you brushed your hair, brushed your teeth, applied your night cream? I hope so.

A perfect example that one doesn't have to don Dungarees/get tattooed, adopt the persona of a male neer do well... - why can't you lot take a leaf from her book instead of trying to be second class men, punching way out of your depth - or dare I say it, class?

Any way girls, can't wait to meet you all busying yourselves below stairs here at Pooter Towers when I invite her (that's 'Melady' to you lot), round for vollo vonts and little sausages and bits on toothpicks before we set off for a blowout meal in Hanley. (Wetherspoons I think).

Honestly you girls had better make sure your aprons and caps are super starched and crispy white as you all line up to see us off. Not to mention your Curtseys, otherwise it's smacked legs all round!

Lastly, it's the weekend so surely we can all loosen our corsets and collars a little?

Thank you Pooter for your kind words, but any chap who wants to take me out for lunch needs to aim a little higher than Wetherspoons. I'm not averse to the odd real ale, but really, if you're trying to impress the Lady, you need to try harder.

Really?? As a co-director of the Staffordshire Association of Mortgage VIctims and working in the industry dealing daily with people who face eviction and possession i can tell you this Government is just spinning without actually protecting anyone.. The banks and lenders are getting away with murder on contracts for mortgages that are totally unenforcable and the Governments new mortgage protection scheme has saved ... wait for it.... 41 families.

42,000 applicants aplied for assistance, 12000 were evicted and just 41... yes 41!!! were saved.... thats really helping!!! NOT.

Many people took out PPI to protect them in redundancy or job loss due to other factors and now find the payments they made are worthless as fine print errors on contracts mean the lenders have to pay nothing. They then pounce on families at short notice and seek eviction and the courts dont even consider the circumstances properly.

I personnally have saved more people from eviction on me own than the whole of the Governments mortgage rescue scheme nationally.

The courts were ordered two years ago to provide debt amangement and counsoulling to all applicants facing homeless or bailif actions... to date there are only one day a week when someone sits at Hanley COunty court offering such services and almost all of the lenders have ignored the guidelines.

Hopefully a few of these 'nationally funded' banks will be getting a bloody nose later this week as Tuesday see the start of a three day Lords hearing on their bank charges.... its about time we took control of our money from the sharks that seem to be able to rob us blind.!!

Ah dear Pooter, at it again. I am dying

Ah dear Pooter, at it again. I am dying to read an article written by you. Unless you haven't noticed, there's not been much from the women contributors recently. The men seem to have more time to write than us. What can I say? We are all too busy below stairs, of course.

Please hurry up and write an article for PnP, I can't wait to read it. Most of your comments are generally nonsensical (but then of course I am a mere woman!)

Who do you think you are, annoying me on a Sunday afternoon when I'm nursing a hangover????
