I was incensed to read the comments made by Newcastle-under-Lyme Councillor Ashley Howells in today's Sentinel. He said: [quote]"I am extremely sorry that I made a personal response on Twitter which has been misinterpreted and then sadly misrepresented by others.


Upon returning from my annual holiday, the first headline in the local media to hit me was the ConLib Governments cuts to Area Based Grants (£3.4m) administered by the LSP, but responsible to (accountable body) Stoke-on-Trent City Council.


The newly appointed Cabinet have already decided to extend (not) public scrutiny on there decision making. by cutting the number of meetings of the Cabinet by a quarter, and will be held in the evenings at 6pm so that this part time crew don’t have to have any time off work.

Cllr Ross Irving was elected as the new Vice Chairman of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Authority to support Cllr Len Bloomer who was re-elected as the Chairman. Conservative Councillor Len Bloomer enters his second year as Chairman whilst Conservative and Independent Alliance Councillor, Ross Irving, will take over as Vice Chairman from Cllr Barrie Mycock.

The leaders of the 4 main political parties in Stoke-on-Trent City Council announced this afternoon that they are going to form a coalition cabinet. The cabinet will be made up of 5 Labour members, 2 City Independents, 2 Conservative Independent Alliance and one LibDem.


I must be really sad me! But, I have to say I'm really looking forward to this week and reporting on the shenanigans of Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Thursday's Annual Council meeting should be a belter.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has approved its 2010/11 budget at a meeting today. The increase in council tax will be 2.89 per cent and will mean residents of Stoke-on-Trent continue to pay the lowest council tax in Staffordshire. Council tax for Band A homes, which make up 61 per cent of properties in the city, will be £925.87 a year, including the contributions towards the costs of the police and fire service. The increase will be 41p a week for Band A properties.

Stoke-on-Trent’s contentious and hard fought Building Schools for the Future programme has been given a major boost with the announcement that the project’s Outline Business Case (OBC) has been approved. Confirmation of the approval means government funding is now confirmed in principle for the £250m programme, which will see all secondary and special schools in the city rebuilt or refurbished between 2010 and 2014.
