Last night Stoke-on-Trent City Council unanimously agreed that Grimshaw Architects LLP, designers of the Eden Project in Cornwall and the International Terminal at London Waterloo station, will be the lead architectural company creating the full design for the city centre bus station.

Just how long does it take to get a project finished, never mind started in Stoke-on-Trent? Back in February, we reported on the the facelift of Potteries Way. The Elected Mayor, Mark Meredith & Councillor Adrian Knapper were photographed with a local resident and a shiny shovel marking the start of a £1.8 million project to improve Potteries Way. The project boasted hundreds of new trees & hedges to replace the 'poor quality' ones which were already in place.

Does anybody believe the report agreed by Cabinet is anything more than a public relations exercise to try and convince us all that something is still happening in Hanley? Over the years we, the taxpayer, have paid for endless studies and consultations. We have be presented with great plans and artists impressions.

Today it has been announced that the plans for the new bus station in Hanley will cost £24.5 million and the council have so far only secured about £4 million funding. This leaves a shortfall of over £20 million. Well, I think the plans for the new bus station were fantastic and it would be great to have such a superb development in our city centre. But where will the money come from?
