Thrill seekers can experience the exhilaration of cycling with no brakes at a Cycle Speedway event. The event, taking place on Monday (August 2) is part of the city’s Festival of Sport and is aimed at children aged seven to 14. It will be the first of three Extreme Cycling classes taking place in August. The two hour class will take place between 6:30pm and 8:30pm at the Etruria Park track.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council boasts three Green Flag sites across the city in three of its cemeteries. Carmountside Cemetery and Crematorium has been awarded a Green Flag for the third year running. Fenton and Burslem Cemeteries have retained their Green Flags for the second consecutive year.
Residents in Great Chell, Fegg Hayes and Chell Heath will decide on how over £1m will be spent in their area. The report to cabinet presents the year end capital outturn for our capital programme. This covers capital investment by the city council and those funded from other sources such as £35m for the RENEW programme. Westfield Children’s Centre and Nursery School in Longton has transformed their existing outdoor play facilities into a new natural play area. The play space, designed and built by local environmental and regeneration charity Groundwork Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire is made of all naturally occurring materials and includes features such as play hills, tunnels, dens as well as state-of-the-art sensory equipment.
Four events, including a torchlight night, at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery form part of London’s 2012 Open Weekend (23 – 25 July 2010). The events in the city are part of a series of activities across the country which will take place to celebrate the final two years until the London 2012 Olympic Games and to provide access to excellence in the arts, culture and sport.
Improvements to one of the city’s major road junctions is set to start next week as part of building work for the new sixth form college. The work to the traffic signals at the junction of Leek Road, Station Road and Glebe Street will start on Monday July 19 and will last for approximately six weeks. The work will involve minor alterations to pedestrian islands and the traffic signals to help accommodate the new sixth form college, which is due to open in September 2010.
