I wrote this a few years ago and I wrote it to recognise and act of bravery and valour which was not recognised in the local media. I tried to interest the Sentinel, but they did not print either this or a letter I had written around September 29th 2008.
A series of teddy bears’ picnics will take place across the city’s libraries next month to help celebrate National Breastfeeding Week. The events, where families are encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bears, aim to promote breastfeeding making mums feel proud and comfortable with feeding their babies.
The independent Local Government Boundary Commission has been carrying out an electoral review of Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The review will decide on how many councillors should sit on the council, and the name, number and boundaries of each of the City’s local electoral wards.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council is supporting the “Six Towns Challenge”, a Rotary organised charity walk to tie in with the centenary of the federation of Stoke-on-Trent. Taking place on Saturday 8 May 2010, starting at 09:30 outside Tunstall Town Hall the walk raises money for local charities, and will be started by the Lord Mayor Councillor Jean Bowers, Port Vale’s Gareth Owen and the Rotary District Governor Up to 250 people will be taking part in the event including council staff, Rotary clubs,
Please let me introduce myself to you all. I was born in Blurton, and have lived here all my life. I have been married for 17yrs, and have one daughter. I am Vice-Chair of Governors for Heron Cross Primary School. Some of you might know me from campaigning for the pedestrian crossing by the school. We got our crossing, and can now cross to school in safety. I help out with various things at the school, so I feel that I know most of you already.
Over the past 6 weeks Staffordshire Police have been targeting those involved in the theft of motorbikes with a police ‘Rat Trap’. Detectives from the City’s proactive unit placed a motorbike in areas affected by this sort of crime and lay in wait until someone attempted to steal the very ordinary looking vehicle.
Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Archive Service’s Annual Day School next month will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the joining of the six pottery towns of Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke-upon-Trent, Fenton and Longton to form the new borough of Stoke-on-Trent. The popular Day School, now in its 12th year will take place on Saturday March 6 at Staffordshire University’s Stoke Campus from 10am to 4pm. A fascinating programme has been planned with a range of popular speakers.
Residents are encouraged to come along to meetings with officers from Neighbourhood Policing Units (NPUs) across the City over the next few days to discuss any issues or concerns the may have. This afternoon officers who police the Abbey Hulton area of the city will be working from the Sutton Community Group base, Priory Road, between 4pm and 5pm.
Police in Stoke-on-Trent have arrested two people at an address in Fenton on suspicion of drugs offences. Plain clothed officers executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Goldenhill Road this morning. A 32-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were arrested at the address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A Drugs. They are being questioned at the force’s Northern Area Custody Facility.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s cabinet is to be asked to retender two demolition contracts following an internal review. A report to the cabinet meeting of 23 December recommends retendering the contracts for the demolition of Westcliffe Hospital and Hamilton House. It also recommends that a full review is carried out into the council’s procurement procedures and that appropria
