General Election Constituencies
The news that ‘one of the toughest jobs in local government’, chief executive of Stoke-on-Trent city council, was being advertised with a salary of £195,000 drew a mostly predictable response from our local media. Posters to the Sentinel website became even more illiterate than normal in the rush to express their indignation at the ‘outrageous salary’ on offer (but see Sid, below). The salary is not excessive, especially when compared to other authorities.
