Figures presented to Staffordshire Police Authority today, (20 July) show that more than 1,400 fewer crimes were recorded in Staffordshire between April and June 2010, compared to the same period last year. The total number of offences dropped by almost seven per cent to 19,034. 
During the same three-month period in 2009 the total number of offences was 20,451. Business-related crime has also fallen to 2,176 from 2,523, a drop of almost 14 per cent.

By Mike Rawlins Councillor Reaction Now Online! The independent Boundary Committee for England has this morning written to Stoke-on-Trent City Council and announced its initial recommendation on council size for Stoke-on-Trent. Following a consultation held over the summer, the Committee has decided that a council size of 45 will provide the basis for its next round of consultation, which starts today.

By Mike Rawlins At todays council meeting councillors voted to reduce the number of councillors from 60 to between 52 & 56.  The recommendations are part of the first stage of the Stoke-on-Trent Electoral Review which will reshape the governance of the city. The decision today in full council will now go to the Boundary Committee for consultation.

By Mike Rawlins 27th March, 2009 The Council yesterday agreed to reduce the proposed 5.9% council rent rise to 3.1% thanks to a government subsidy of £1.2 million. The council has already spent £14,000 sending out letters informing tenants of the intended 5.9% rise, and questions over whether it was possible to recoup any of this cost were raised, which is thought unlikely.
