Thrill seekers can experience the exhilaration of cycling with no brakes at a Cycle Speedway event. The event, taking place on Monday (August 2) is part of the city’s Festival of Sport and is aimed at children aged seven to 14. It will be the first of three Extreme Cycling classes taking place in August. The two hour class will take place between 6:30pm and 8:30pm at the Etruria Park track.

Stoke-on-Trent has a new political party – Community Voice. Oh no! Not another one, some may say. Well this is an amalgamation of 2 existing groups, the Non-Aligned and The Potteries Alliance. So the net result is one group less in the council chamber. Community Voice officially launched yesterday [Tuesday]. There were a number of people present including media, members of the public and former Labour Party members maybe looking for a new home.

The Future Jobs Fund (FJF) is having a major impact on young unemployed people in Stoke-on-Trent as they successfully turn their lives around. Two young men - both long-term unemployed - are this week celebrating new careers thanks to the Future Jobs Fund which is run by the City Council’s JET (Jobs, Enterprise, Training) team and JobCentre Plus.

The report to cabinet presents the year end capital outturn for our capital programme. This covers capital investment by the city council and those funded from other sources such as £35m for the RENEW programme. Youngsters in Stoke will be able to benefit from free swimming in all the city's pools for a further month despite the scheme being discontinued by Central Government. An extra £5000 of funding has been donated to Stoke-on-Trent City Council by family baker Warburton’s meaning under 16's will be able to swim for free until August 30. Stoke-on-Trent City Council has today received the highest award possible for its entry into this year’s Royal Horticultural Society Tatton Park Show. The flower bed, which marks 100 years of the federation of the six towns, has been awarded a gold medal and Best in Show at the Cheshire flower show which runs until Saturday. Stoke-on-Trent City Council is hoping to strike gold with its centenary celebratory flower display at this year’s prestigious Tatton Park show. Residents will have the chance to air their views about how Stoke-on-Trent City Council should save money over the coming year with a week of consultations across the city. Questions have been created to allow residents to help the city council set its spending priorities. With the extremely difficult budget position the council is facing in the next few years, and the 25% cut to our budget demanded by central government it’s vital that the council do things differently.
