A public inquiry is being held at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Civic Centre, Glebe Street Stoke on Tuesday 6 July at 10.00, which will look at plans to build a replacement Tesco supermarket at Newcastle Road in Trent Vale. Mr P J Major BA(Hons) DipTP MRTPI an inspector instructed by the Secretary of State will attend the inquiry.

This is a story of two towns. One I left at the age of 10 and the other that has been my home for the last 16 years. I have a memory of being about 6 and looking across the road at Campbell Pace at thinking how modern and busy Campbell Place in the centre of Stoke seemed to be. I stood at the same spot last Thursday. It was an appalling vista. Woolworth’s was closed, as was Ethel Austin. A shoe shop was empty, as was a Subway sandwich bar.
Preparatory work for an extension of Stoke-on-Trent’s city centre ring road and a new supermarket will move up a gear on Thursday as diggers move in to clear the land. Since January 4 workers have been carrying out initial preparation works securing the site, off Clough Street. On Thursday, contractors will start to clear the land for the new Tesco store and 540 metre extension of Potteries Way.
More car parking spaces lost in Hanley Clough Street car park is to be closed to make way for the new Tesco store and the work to complete the ring road. On 4 January 2010, almost exactly a year since Birch Terrace car park was closed due to 'severe structural problems', Clough Street will be closed as part of the Tesco development that the City Council seem to be pinning their hopes on to kick start the regeneration of Hanley, or as they would like it known 'City Centre'.

By Pits n Pots Reporter A compulsory purchase order that is needed for a priority regeneration project in Stoke-on-Trent city centre has been approved by communities secretary John Denham. The compulsory purchase order will bring into public ownership land that is needed for the building of a new Tesco supermarket and an important 540m extension to the Potteries Way city centre ring road. Tesco was given planning permission for a new store and for the link road in May 2005.
A scheme to build 46 affordable homes in Meir has been agreed by councillors. Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Development Control Committee members at a meeting on Tuesday morning, approved plans to build the homes behind Lyme Road, Meir. The development will provide two bedroom homes for the elderly, three and four bedroom family homes and two bedroom flats.
Staffordshire Police scenes of crimes officers are examining a car and contents in relation to the armed robbery at Tesco Extra on Baths Road Longton last week. The car, a silver coloured VW Bora was recovered over the weekend from Red House Crescent in Longton and is believed to be the vehicle used by the offenders. Two men dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered, approached security guards as they were filling up cash machines outside the Tesco Extra store on Baths Road in Longton at around 8am this morning, one of the men was reported to have had a hand gun. The police have reported that there were no injuries during the incident and it is not yet known how much money was taken during the robbery. CCTV footage is now being examined to see if any further clues can be gained. Police have no
