Labour - The Story Behind 'That' Amendment
The Labour Group tabled an amendment at the Annual Budget Meeting of Stoke-on-Trent City Council on Thursday which attracted widespread condemnation.
They were accused of not taking part in the Budget Consultations that were provided for all councillors.
The amendment was not supported by a single councillor other than the 12 Labour Councillors present.
Yet some councillors said they would have supported some of the ideas in the amendment had they have been informed and issued with the details before the full council meeting.
Councillors from all sides of the chamber were angry at what the perceived as Political Grandstanding by the Labour Group.
We have two Audio Interviews for you to listen to.
The first is with Cllr Kieran Clarke, the Cabinet Member for Resources, who raises issues with the Labour Amendment
The second [in 2 parts] is with Labour Group Leader Mohammed Pervez who explains the reasons behind the amendment.

How interesting Pervez's take
How interesting Pervez's take on his proposals and the budget meeting are. I can only think he has been sniffing to many of those substances he works with as an industrial chemist.
My sources tell me that some members of the Labour Group were not happy with the amendment that was put forward, recognising the likely response. So even he was struggling within his own party with his "amendment".
At least one Labour Councillor, Debra Gratton, left the meeting in disgust at the Labour motion, just prior to the vote on the amendment, and had to be "encouraged" to return to support their own amendment.
I also understand that Pervez demanded that all Labour Councillors attend the meeting to support his "alternative budget" (a sheet of A4!), but was embarrassed to find that his group whip, Cllr. Paul Shotton, had booked a holiday - he even asked him to change his holiday!!
So the man tasked with enforcing Pervez's demands to attend couldn't even attend himself - how embarrassing.
The Labour Group made outrageous claims about lack of trust and stifling debate.
All this from a man who stood shoulder to shoulder with the Elected Mayor, to shout down Cllr Dave Conway and Jean Edwards, over the closure of Dimensions; and a man so desperate to close Dimensions he accused Labour Councillors of being "racist" for which Cllr G arner made a formal complaint (I still have the email)- once again ignored by the powers that be - the same powers that now exclude the likes of Gary Elsby etc....
This final failure of political manipulation shows the complete void in which the Labour Party now occupies.
Any credibility it had has now evaporated completely.
The saddest thing of all is their criticism of public consultation, from a local party who cannot even listen to their own grass roots local members let alone the public.
Of all the issues that were coming up - the budget could have been Labour's ace card. It wasn't hard to take advantage of the situation with the economic climate.
Yet these muppets seem to have thrown it down the toilet.
The saddest thing is that it could mean a complete wipeout at the local elections for Labour - but the NEC and many more are hoping that their last hope of having the general election on the same day will pull them out of the shit. I hope the electorate are not so easily hoodwinked.
Don't think it is easy for me to attack the Labour Party - it has been an enormous part of my life - the vast majority (a silent majority) are decent people. But there is an rotten core that has poisoned the party and destroyed it from within, supported by the equally cancerous regional office.
The only hope is that these people are eliminated in the forthcoming local elections.
Let's hope the public agree and Cllr. Mohammed Pervez, Cllr. J o y G a r n e r, Mar tin Gar ner and Sarah Hill fail to get elected in spectacular fashion.

Cllr Pervez accuses the budget of having no SOLID policies.
Cllr Prevez Labour
Whose Labour group proposed the Closure of the City Farm, now in opposisiton they want to save it.
Who wanted to close Dimension, now its to be expanded?
Who took on 8 new officers at cost £440,000, to fix the Cities Roads of Potholes at cost £1.5million (to make them safe for cyclists) and what an excellent job they have done (see fixmystreet in the right column). Now in opposition wants to cut consultanst.
I move Cllr Pervez, it is Labour that have no firm commitment to anything it proposes. and are making a very poor attempt to distance themselves from their past mistakes

Cllr. Pervez or should it read Cllr. Perverz?
Talk about turning turtle his attitude must be:- we are the opposition so we will oppose for the sake of it.
One side of A4, sounds more like one side of the back of a fag packet.

As a Tunstall resident I
As a Tunstall resident I would like to challenge potteye to tell us who he would prefer to be elected in Tunstall instead of the Labour candidate. The only other candidates I have heard mentioned who are in with a chance of winning are Wanger (child porn convict) and T.Cope member of PCF (BNP sister party).
So come on potteye which one do you prefer Wanger or Cope?
Let's hope there are more,
Let's hope there are more, what a sorry bunch!

Thomas, the PCF are no
Thomas, the PCF are no relation to any party.
We are not answerable to anyone but the voter.
If I stand, I will take no orders from London, Birmingham, or anywhere else but the people of Tunstall, Sandyford ,and Goldenhill.
For too long Tunstall has been the poor relation in this city.
I could start throwing insults like Barnes, but will not lower myself to his level.
