Speed Cycling Without Brakes For Festival of Sport
Thrill seekers can experience the exhilaration of cycling with no brakes at a Cycle Speedway event.
The event, taking place on Monday (August 2) is part of the city’s Festival of Sport and is aimed at children aged seven to 14. It will be the first of three Extreme Cycling classes taking place in August. The two hour class will take place between 6:30pm and 8:30pm at the Etruria Park track. Two further events will both take place on Wednesday August 25, between 1pm and 3pm and 6:30pm and 8:30pm.
Coaches will be on hand to talk participants through the basics of riding a cycle speedway bike. The riders have experience racing throughout the world competing for both Stoke-on-Trent and England in International competitions. Cycle Speedway is raced on an oval circuit with four riders in each race, racing anti-clockwise around the circuit for four laps.
Councillor Hazel Lyth, cabinet member for adult social care, sport, leisure and culture, said:
“The coaches on hand are some of the best that this country has to offer and will show children how to race a Cycle Speedway bike both safely and competitively.”
